The doctor's office

The waiting room
This room was once the waiting room for the doctor's office. Many have sat here with beating hearts, cried and received unexpected messages. One of the more charming memories is that those who came here for a pregnancy test often left with a bandage on their ear – the blood test was taken there.
Today the room is quiet, but the stories still linger in the walls.

Shoemaker Anders
You guessed it – this was the shoemaker's room. Anders made shoes for both everyday and festive occasions, and was known for his traditional Norwegian shoes. A kind man, so to speak. He married a foster daughter without a dowry, so that she could keep the farm. She got her farm, and he returned to his Swiss house, the haftelfsa and shoemaking.
The smell of leather and linen thread is gone, but is Skomaker Anders?

The rectory
This room has housed several of the village's parish priests over the years. Here, speeches were written, minutes were kept and decisions were made that had significance far beyond the walls. Many important conversations took place here – about faith, doubt, life and death – and the room often bore the mark of both seriousness and warmth.
We should have heard the stories from the priests who lived here.

The staff room
Did you know that there was once a schoolroom at Borgerstua? Yes, there was – and the teachers also had to have a place to retreat to. This is where they sat between classes, corrected tests, discussed students and planned lessons for the village's children.
The room bore the hallmarks of a time when the school day was strict, the blackboards were made of slate, and the teacher had both respect and responsibility in the village.

Sheriff's Office
This room belonged to the sheriff – the village’s most important representative of law and order at a time when distances were great and the authorities were far away. Here, reports were written, minutes were kept and decisions were made that could have great significance for the people of the village. The sheriff had both power and responsibility: he investigated cases, collected taxes, resolved conflicts and was often the first to be called when something happened.

The Madonna Rooms
These rooms are inspired by the Madonnastien – the famous hiking route that winds up to the Madonna statue at Bjønneskortenatten, with views of the entire Eggedalsfjella mountains. The walls are clad in stone, giving the rooms a calm and down-to-earth feel. The Madonnastien has long been a place for reflection, faith and nature experiences, and many have sought both peace and strength on the way up to the statue.

Standard room
These are cozy, good rooms with comfortable beds and a calm atmosphere. The rooms are located together in a separate hallway with two other rooms, and have access to a small veranda where you can get some fresh air or take a coffee break. The standard rooms are simple in a good way – and perfect if you are staying here for a few days and working. Many people appreciate the peace and quiet here, though you can, of course, also sit in the café if you want a little more life around you.
