EGGEDAL

Eggedal is a living
rural community - even today!

Eggedal has always been a hub in the valley, and it still is. Today, the village functions as a natural year-round gathering point for the villagers and everyone who has cabins at Tempelseter , Haglebu and the surrounding mountains.

Here people stop to shop, eat, have a chat with the antique dealer, charge or fill up with gas, and meet friends before the trip continues up the mountain.

Borgerstua is located in the middle of this vibrant small town centre.

Beautiful mountains

Eggedal Borgerstue is a cultural monument in operation and still fulfills many of the same functions as in the past: meeting place, dining place, accommodation, trade and community.

History is embedded in the walls, but the place lives in the present. And it is precisely this combination of tradition, history and everyday life that makes Borgerstua one of the most distinctive and beloved places in Sigdal.

the story of
citizen's house

Borgerstua was established in the 1920s as a coach station, a natural hub for travelers who needed food, rest and a roof over their heads.

The shuttle station quickly became a social hub – a place where news was shared, deals were made, and everyday life was lived.

FOOD & DRINK

the building has
had many roles

Eggedal Borgerstua (Borgerstua in popular parlance) housed a doctor's office, post office, sheriff's office, school, bank, library and shop. In other words – a small community gathered under one roof. This diversity of functions makes Borgerstua one of the most historically significant buildings in Eggedal.

The picture is from 1934 and shows a district council meeting.

FAMILY OWNED

a new era

In 1968, a new era began when Ellen Sofie Koren Lund and Henriette Koren Bøle moved from Modum and established a hotel in the building. Since then, Borgerstua has been run by the same family. Today's owner, Elisabeth Koren Bøle (the third generation owner), has continued the traditions of warmth, hospitality and local roots, while developing the place into a modern, but historically conscious hotel and gathering place.

when you want that little bit extra

Today, Borgerstua houses 16 unique rooms, many of them named after previous functions in the house.

The café and country store continues the tradition of local food and local goods – from moose chops and sour cream porridge to interior design and goodies from producers in Sigdal and the surrounding area.
