16 rooms, each with its own story

The Doctor’s Office room with a four-poster bed, window and armchair

The Doctor's Office

Placed with views of the garden and courtyard, our rooms offer a calm base for early mornings and late evenings. The interior blends natural materials and soft textiles in an earthy expression.

Perfect for anyone wanting a simple, comfortable stay close to nature.

The Waiting Room with two beds and a chandelier at Eggedal Borgerstue

The Waiting Room

This room was once the waiting room for the doctor's office. Many have sat here with beating hearts, shed tears and received unexpected news. One of the more charming memories is that those who came here for a pregnancy test often left with a bandage on their ear – the blood test was taken there.

Today the room is quiet, but the stories still linger in the walls.

Single bed with white headboard and chair by the window in Shoemaker Anders

Shoemaker Anders

This room is dedicated to the memory of shoemaker Anders. He made shoes for everyday wear and special occasions alike, and was known for his traditional Norwegian bunad shoes. A kind man, by all accounts. He married a foster daughter from the village who had no inheritance claim to her family's farm, so that she could keep it. She kept her farm, and he returned to his own home.

This is an especially cozy room with a lovely single bed.

The Rectory room with a single bed, white wooden walls and an old portrait

The Rectory

This room has housed several of the village's parish priests over the years. Here, sermons were written, minutes were kept and decisions were made that had significance far beyond the walls. Many important conversations took place here – about faith, doubt, life and death – and the room often bore the mark of both seriousness and warmth.

If only we could hear the stories of the priests who lived here.

The Teachers’ Room with a double bed, chandelier and window

The Teachers' Room

Did you know that there was once a schoolroom at Borgerstua? Yes, there was – and the teachers also had to have a place to retreat to. This is where they sat between classes, corrected tests, discussed students and planned lessons for the village's children.

The room bore the hallmarks of a time when the school day was strict, the blackboards were made of slate, and the teacher had both respect and responsibility in the village.

The Sheriff’s Office room with an iron bed, timber walls and flowers

The Sheriff’s Office

This room belonged to the sheriff – the village’s most important representative of law and order at a time when distances were great and the authorities were far away. Here, reports were written, minutes were kept and decisions were made that could have great significance for the people of the village. The sheriff had both power and responsibility: he investigated cases, collected taxes, resolved conflicts and was often the first to be called when something happened.

One of the Madonna Rooms with two beds and a window

The Madonna Rooms

These rooms are inspired by the Madonna Trail – the famous hiking route that winds up to the Madonna statue at Bjønneskortenatten, with views across the Eggedal mountains. The walls are clad in stone, giving the rooms a calm and down-to-earth feel.

Dogs are welcome here too.

Standard room with bed, desk and window at Eggedal Borgerstue

Standard Rooms

These are cozy rooms with comfortable beds and a calm atmosphere. They share a separate hallway with two other rooms and have access to a small veranda where you can get some fresh air or take a coffee break. The standard rooms are simple in a good way – perfect if you are staying a few days to work. Many guests appreciate the peace and quiet, and if you want a little more life around you, the café is right there.
